Keegan Announces Results of 1st Phase Reconnaissance Program at Asumura Gold Project, Ghana.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Keegan Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:KGN)is pleased to announce the successful completion of its first phase reconnaissance sampling program on the Asumura Project in Southwest Ghana. The Asumura Property consists of a 280 square kilometer reconnaissance concession located 65 km southwest of Newmont's (TSX:NMX)(NYSE:NEM) Ahafo gold district, where on February 3rd, 2005, Newmont announced proven and probable reserves of 10.6 Moz at an average gold grade of 0.068opt (1.92g). Newmont states in it's 2004 annual report that it is continuing an extensive exploration program within the district as it builds the Ahafo mine toward a planned start up in the second half of 2006. Like Ahafo, Asumura is located on the Western Belt Boundary Shear of the Sefwi Greenstone Belt. Like most giant greenstone gold deposits including Ahafo, Asumura is located on a flexure of the belt bounding shear zone.

Based on this geologic concept, Keegan obtained 475 stream sediment samples over the 280 square kilometer area. Of these samples, 16 ranged between 100-500 ppb Au, 29 samples between 25-100 ppb Au, and 39 samples between 10-25 ppb Au. The best and most consistent stream sediment anomaly occurs in the east-central part of the property. The anomalous samples drain a 12 square kilometer area where seven of 20 stream sediment samples assay better than 100 ppb gold and 13 of 20 assays better than 25 ppb Au. Regional geologic maps show that the anomalous area is underlain by a large in-belt granite stock intruding mafic volcanic and basinal argillic sediments at the western boundary of the Sefwi greenstone belt. This setting is very similar to the southwest Ahafo district where, in a presentation given at the PDAC conference in 2004, Newmont shows four separate gold deposits hosted by granite bodies on the western edge of the Sefwi greenstone belt.

Keegan obtained 589 soils in 10 widely spaced reconnaissance lines based on the qualitative results of panning during stream sediment sampling. Of these soil samples, 22 assayed better than 25 ppb Au.

Keegan will quickly complete its US$80,000 first years work commitment and will immediately expedite next years optional work commitment on the property, with the goal of developing drill targets on the property as quickly and efficiently as possible. Over the next month closely spaced soil lines in the areas of the best stream sediment and reconnaissance soil sample anomalies will be completed.
