Keck Graduate Institute Receives $1 Million Grant.


CLAREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 1998-`-Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences, a new graduate school dedicated to applied life sciences in the Claremont Consortium of Colleges, Tuesday announced it has received a $1 million grant from The Fletcher Jones

Sir (David) Fletcher Jones OBE (14 August 1895 - 22 February 1977) was an Australian clothing manufacturer and retailer, and a pioneer in workforce participation.
 Foundation to help build infrastructure for its new campus.

The institute plans to direct half of the $1 million grant to preconstruction costs. The remaining $500,000 will be used for equipment and furnishings for new faculty.

"This is a significant and positive development that will keep us on schedule for offering classes in the fall of 1999," said Henry E. Riggs, president of the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences (short KGI) is a small graduate school in Claremont, California. It was founded in 1997 through a startup grant of $50 million from the W. M. Keck Foundation. KGI is a member of the Claremont Colleges. . "We welcome this partnership with The Fletcher Jones Foundation to establish an exciting new approach to life science education."

 Graduate Institute is a member of the Claremont Consortium of Colleges, which includes five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions.

The institute will offer innovative, focused and interdisciplinary graduate-level programs to prepare highly qualified students for responsible, professional careers in life-science-based organizations. The institute will begin offering classes in the fall of 1999.
