Kazakhstan Minerals announces encouraging drilling results from Southern Kazakhstan.VANCOUVER Vancouver, city, Canada Vancouver, city (1991 pop. 471,844), SW British Columbia, Canada, on Burrard Inlet of the Strait of Georgia, opposite Vancouver Island and just N of the Wash. border. , British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 1996-- KazMinCo is pleased to announce a number of significant drill intercepts from its exploration projects in Southern Kazakstan. The Kenzhem, Duman-Shuak and Svetinskoye properties lie within the major Akbakai Gold Belt (see Fig. 1) located to the South West of Lake Balkhash Lake Balqash (Kazakh: Балқаш Көлі . The Shatyrgul copper-gold property lies further south in a district of ancient mine workings. Akbakai Gold Belt The Kenzhem Deposit is located 7km from the producing Akbakai Gold Mine and comprises the gold bearing Main Kenzhem vein, the Pologaya vein and a recently discovered structure known as the New Zone. A drilling programme is underway designed to test the potential of the three gold bearing structures to a depth of approximately 600m. A considerable number of drill samples are in the process of being assayed - significant intervals obtained so far are listed in Table 1. Within 1km of the Kenzhem deposit, the main gold mineralised zone at the Duman-Shuak property varies in thickness between 2m and 40m and dips at 35 degrees - 45 degrees; parts of the zone may have open pittable potential. Subject to feasibility studies The analysis of a problem to determine if it can be solved effectively. The operational (will it work?), economical (costs and benefits) and technical (can it be built?) aspects are part of the study. Results of the study determine whether the solution should be implemented. it is likely that Duman-Shuak and Kenzhem would be operated as one mine. Table 1 below gives a number of significant drill intercepts from the main mineralised zone at Duman-Shuak. Some 25km to the North West of the Duman-Shuak property along the Akbakai Gold Belt, a preliminary drilling programme has been completed at the Svetinskoye property. High grade mineralisation is carried in a series of sub-vertical shear shear: see strength of materials. Shear A straining action wherein applied forces produce a sliding or skewing type of deformation. zones with widths of up to 5 metres - selected assay intervals are shown below.

Drilling is continuing on KazMinCo's key properties along the Akbakai Gold Belt in order to fully evaluate their potential. In addition, further high quality targets are being sought within this extensive and strongly mineralised gold province. Shatyrgul Property Over the past year a drilling and trenching programme has been completed at the Shatyrgul copper/gold deposit located 200km South East of the Akbakai properties. Mineralisation is contained within two branches of a major hydrothermal hydrothermal, hydrothermic relating to the temperature effects of water, as in hot baths. vein system, each of which has a strike length in excess of 4km. A selection of drilling results from the Western branch which were published in the Company's 1996 Annual Report, are repeated below together with some new assays. An evaluation of the results of KazMinCo's work programmes and of previous extensive Soviet data is underway.
