Kawada Industries, AIST, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Unveil Prototype Humanoid Robot.

Tokyo, Japan, Sept 12, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Kawada Industries has developed HRP-3P, a humanoid robot prototype, in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (産業技術総合研究所  (AIST AIST Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Japan)
AIST National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Japan)
AIST Association for Iron & Steel Technology
) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI khi

).

Specifically, Kawada Industries developed the hardware, AIST technologies to allow the robot to cope with actual environments, and KHI remote control technologies.

The HRP-3P, which is 150cm tall and weights 65kg (including batteries), features improved dust- and splash-resistance so it can work in harsh environments. Further, the prototype uses a newly developed remote operation cockpit that enables it to autonomously balance, achieving improved operability.

The three partners will proceed with further research with a view to introducing a final version of the HRP-3P in fiscal 2006.
