Katy Motiey Joins Thales Navigation as General Counsel.

, Calif. -- Thales today announced the appointment of Katy Motiey as vice president, general counsel of its navigation business. Motiey brings a rich background in the review and negotiation of all matters relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

 commercial transactions, private financings, mergers and acquisitions, general corporate, intellectual property and employment issues. Motiey has provided legal counsel to companies including technology leaders Alta Vista and Maple Optical, as well as one of the largest law firms in the world, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol .

Prior to joining Thales, Motiey practiced law at GCA GCA, ground-controlled approach: see instrument-landing system.  Law Partners LLP, where her practice included representation of technology companies in general corporate matters, commercial and strategic transactions, intellectual property matters, private financings, and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining GCA, Motiey held various in-house and outside counsel positions, including as vice president, general counsel and secretary at Maple Optical Systems in San Jose, Calif., senior corporate counsel at Alta Vista Company in Palo Alto, Calif., and as a corporate attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Los Angeles and Palo Alto, Calif.

Motiey was a law clerk for the Honorable Manuel L. Real, formerly Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California, from 1993 to 1995.

Motiey received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where she graduated magna cum laude and phi beta kappa Phi Beta Kappa: see fraternity.
