Kathy G. Eddy Elected New AICPA Chair.

Kathy G. Eddy of West Virginia was elected chair of the AICPA Board of Directors at the governing Council/Annual Members' Meeting last month in Las Vegas. The term of the appointment is from Oct. 2000 until Oct. 2001.

Eddy, a shareholder in a smaller accounting corporation, has long been active in serving the profession. She cochaired the AICPA/NASBA NASBA - National Association of State Boards of Accountancy National Steering Committee for the Regulation of the Profession, was a member-at-large of Council, and continues to serve on the Political Leadership Cabinet. Eddy also had been a member of the Special Committee on Regulation and Structure of the Profession and completed a three-year appointment as a member of the Board of Directors. In addition, she has served the West Virginia Society of CPAs and the West Virginia Board of Accountancy by holding all offices, including president, of both organizations.

As chair of the board of directors, Eddy plans to continue pursuing the profession's high-priority initiatives: the Internet portal, the proposed new global business credential and issues being addressed by the Group of 100 task forces. "We need to be certain these initiatives come to fruition," Eddy said. "They all are projects that will help members achieve the Vision."

Besides service to the profession, Eddy is a volunteer on several community boards and has been the recipient of a number of awards for public service.
