 mourn the passing of Kathleen Hoover Papes, a tireless advocate for advancing the economic and general welfare programs of nurses.

Kathleen Hoover Papes devoted much of her career advancing the economic welfare of nurses and nursing. While working with the Illinois Nurses Association she organized nurses at several hospitals and worked with the Coalition of Public Employees to obtain collective bargaining collective bargaining, in labor relations, procedure whereby an employer or employers agree to discuss the conditions of work by bargaining with representatives of the employees, usually a labor union.  rights for nurses and other state employees. She later moved on to the New York New York, state, United States
