AMAA - Army Mutual Aid Association member Mary Kashurba, M.D. (age 47) crossed the finish line of the 135-mile Badwater ultramarathon in only 44 hours and 8 minutes--she was the fifth woman to finish! This invitational race was held July 22-24, starting in Death Valley Death Valley National Park, 3,367,628 acres (1,363,412 hectares), a protected region of Death Valley, was established as a national monument in 1933 and designated a national park in 1994. Whitney (elev. 8,360 feet). Dr. Kashurba reports that it was over 130 degrees fahrenheit F on the first day of the race. Of or relating to a temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 32°F and the boiling point as 212°F at one atmosphere of pressure.
