Business Editors/Health/Medical Writers

CULVER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2004

Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Inc., a leader in medical video imaging systems, announces the launch of its MEDI MEDI Marine Environmental Data Information Referral System  PACK(TM) Mobile Imaging Station as an integrated endoscopic video solution for use in emergency rooms, physicians' offices, ICUs and other clinical environments. The MEDI PACK(TM) offers a comprehensive range of capabilities, including digital image storage, and voice recording, yet its compact size makes it ideal for use in areas where space is limited.

"In today's operating rooms and ERs, the lack of space is a significant issue. The typical cart-based video system takes up usable space," says Carl Liebert, Product Marketing Manager, Karl Storz. "The multifunctional design of the MEDI PACK(TM) Mobile Imaging Station provides an elegant alternative. Space limitations are overcome without sacrificing the system's functionality or performance quality."

Another key advantage of the MEDI PACK(TM) is its versatility, according to Mary Aldrich, Product Marketing Manager, Anesthesia, Karl Storz. "The system performs well as an endoscopic video unit in the emergency room and OR, enabling flexible intubation intubation /in·tu·ba·tion/ (in?too-ba´shun) the insertion of a tube into a body canal or hollow organ, as into the trachea.

in difficult airway patients. It is also useful in field application, i.e., ambulance and emergency transport," says Aldrich.

The MEDI PACK(TM) Mobile Imaging Station includes a camera control unit, high-performance cold light source, documentation module, 12" high-resolution color LCD monitor, a sealed membrane touchpad A stationary pointing device that provides a small, flat surface that you slide your finger over using the same movements as you would a mouse. The TELECAM(R) head can be used with the standard eyepieces of most rigid and flexible endoscopes.
