Kaplan University Launches 13 New Degrees in Various Disciplines, from Environmental Policy and Fire Safety to Nursing and Criminal Justice.

New programs, including three master's degrees, designed to give students a competitive edge in growing fields

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Kaplan University, a leading provider of online higher education, today announced the launch of 13 new online degree programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy and Management and three degrees in Fire Science. These new degrees represent some of today's fastest-growing industries and are designed to help students expand their career options.

Kaplan University's Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy and Management is designed for individuals who are passionate about creating policy for cleaner energy and management of policy for non-profits, the private sector or the government. The curriculum is intended to teach research methods, socially responsible leadership and environmental policy and law. The Associates of Applied Science in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and Policy are designed to prepare students for governmental jobs or positions that require knowledge of government processes. The programs are geared to teach the fundamentals of government, the basic principles of economics, public policy processes, fiscal responsibility and grant-writing.

Kaplan University's Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science are designed to help students enhance their skills and pursue careers in fire services. Modeled after the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) national curriculum, the programs explore firefighter safety, building codes, fire prevention, code inspection and firefighting strategy and tactics. They also strive to teach the technical, legal and social aspects of arson, the application of technology to firefighting and the psychological effects of fire dynamics.

The Bachelor of Science in Fire and Emergency Management is designed to meet government and industry demand for higher levels of education among emergency response leaders. The program is geared towards preparing students to face new challenges in technology, human resource management and fiscal responsibility.

Kaplan University's RN to Master of Science in Nursing degree is designed to allow registered nurses to satisfy specific core requirements for Kaplan University's Master of Science in Nursing program while completing their bachelor's degree in nursing. Students then have the opportunity to enter Kaplan University's Master of Science in Nursing program in a condensed format. This program offers two tracks--one in nursing administration and the other in nursing education. The curriculum focuses on skills in areas such as health promotion and disease prevention, leadership, ethical and legal perspectives in healthcare, healthcare planning for diverse communities and education concepts and curriculum development.

Kaplan University's Bachelor of Science in International and Comparative Criminal Justice is designed to prepare students for careers that involve the investigation of international crime. The program features courses geared toward teaching students to analyze cross-cultural theories of crime, identify and follow trends, and understand transnational crime. The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Management is designed for individuals who are interested in pursuing administrative or managerial positions in the criminal justice field. The program is intended to teach students strategies for utilizing information and research to make sound operational decisions and manage resources in criminal justice, as well as leadership, research methods, law, ethics and criminological theory.

Kaplan University's Master of Science in Accounting is designed to prepare students for mid-to-senior-level positions within the field of accounting. The program focuses on assessing accounting issues in dynamic environments, understanding the theory of accounting information systems and preparing students for accounting credentialing examinations. The Accelerated Master of Business Administration is a 220-quarter-credit program designed for high-potential students interested in earning both a bachelor's and master's degree in business at an accelerated pace. Leveraging strong undergraduate courses towards completion of the graduate degree, the program is geared toward teaching students to foster leadership, innovation and corporate social responsibility in a global context.

Kaplan University's Information Security and Forensics emphasis for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology is designed to prepare students to investigate system vulnerabilities and implement solutions that provide protection against security attacks. The program is geared towards teaching students to analyze forensic data, offer verbal and written resolutions to technical issues and explain the impact of information systems and technology on business or economic processes.

Kaplan University's Lean Six Sigma Certificate seeks to provide a comprehensive education for working professionals interested in utilizing the Lean Six Sigma improvement process in a variety of business environments. Comprising five courses over six months, the program teaches the Lean management principles of waste reduction with the Six Sigma tools of process improvement.
