Kaplan, Inc. (News in Brief).
Kaplan, Inc. (New York), a provider of educational services for
individuals, schools and businesses and a division of the Washington
Post Co., has acquired Achieva, Inc. (San Mateo, CA), a producer of
online tools and resources for students in grades 6-12. No terms were
given. Achieva produces study skills, test prep and college planning
resources for consumers and over the past 15 months has worked with 75
school districts in 22 states. Kaplan provides educational and career
services, including test prep and admissions services, after-school
learning programs, tutoring programs for high school students,
professional training and compliance services through division Kaplan
Professional, and certificate and diploma programs, including an online
law school, from unit The Kaplan Colleges. Kaplan had 2001 revenues of
$494 million.
