of melanine is induced by endothelin and SCF even if the skin is no longer exposed to ultraviolet rays, skin flecks tend to be persistent.

Further, SCF exists in cells of the pigmented parts so that the development of melanocyte is locally enhanced, making the skin flecks sharply visible. In addition, the research group has developed AM Chromone, a chromone derivative that inhibits the proliferation of melanocyte. In the recent clinical studies, the group has confirmed a high inhibitory effect of AM Chromone.

Kao plans to apply these findings to the development of new whitening cosmetics. Details of the latest achievements were presented at the 14th Japan-Korea Joint Meeting of Dermatology in November and will also be presented at the 126th Annual Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in March.
