Kao Confirms Long-term Intake of Highly-concentrated Tea Catechin Helps Lower Blood Glucose Level in Diabetics.

 manufacturer Kao announced on October 18 that it has discovered a unique property of beverage containing highly-concentrated tea catechin catechin /cat·e·chin/ (kat´e-kin) an astringent principle from the heartwood of Acacia catechu (catechu) and Uncaria gambier (gambir). .

Specifically, the company's research laboratory has confirmed that a 12-week intake of the beverage can lower the levels of blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c in patients with diabetes.

The company has concluded that highly-concentrated tea catechin may play an important role in diet therapy for diabetes.

Details of the research were presented at the 26th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity held in Sapporo on October 13 and 14, in collaboration with Koshien University Associate Professor Kunio Yamamoto.
