Kansas State takes home top honors for Tractor design ... again. (FYI News & Notes).

Among the university's research facilities are the J. R. Macdonald Laboratory for research in heavy-ion and atomic physics, the Konza Prairie Research area, and the NASA Center for Gravitational Studies in Cellular and Developmental Biology., Manhattan, Kan., won first place in the annual International 1/4-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, St. Joseph, Mich. The university has taken home top honors four out of the past five years. This year the team took first place in two of the contest's four elements--Written Design Report and Team Presentation. The competition requires student teams to not only take a high-tech product from concept to manufacture but also address marketing, production and risk considerations. "Not only do they acquire engineering experience, they also polish the nontechnical skills employers value, such as teamwork, leadership and time management," says Neil Detra, Case Corp. engineer and cofounder of the event. Universite Laval was the runner-up for the competition, followed by the University of Kentucky, Oklahoma State and Michigan State.
