Kansas City Ballet.Twyla Tharp's As Time Goes By surprised audiences when the Joffrey Ballet Joffrey Ballet, one of the major American dance companies. It was founded in New York City in 1954 by the dancer-choreographer Robert Joffrey. From 1956 to 1964 it made yearly tours of the United States. premiered it in 1973. Most ballet-goers had seen exactly one piece by Tharp--Deuce Coupe, the exuberant, revolutionary montage that merges pure ballet with sassy sas·sy 1 adj. sas·si·er, sas·si·est 1. Rude and disrespectful; impudent. 2. Lively and spirited; jaunty. 3. Stylish; chic: a sassy little hat. postmodern movement to songs by the Beach Boys. Its breakout success overshadowed As Time Goes By, Tharp's second piece for the Joffrey. A poignant utopia of shifting duets, trios, and groups that swirl into eddies of pirouettes with no beginnings or endings, this is a meltingly beautiful 15-minute gem.
