Kalikow elected chairman of GCP, replacing Mendik.

The Board of Directors of the Grand Central Partnership (GCP) recently elected Peter S. Kalikow as its new chairman, replacing Bernard H. Mendik, who served in the position for the past 18 months. Kalikow, president of H.J. Kalikow & Company, LLC, is GCP's third chairman since its inception in 1988.

"We are honored that Peter Kalikow has eagerly accepted the challenge of guiding GCP's board of directors into the new millennium," said Fred Cerullo, president and CEO of the Grand Central Partnership. "At the same time, we also say thank you to Bernie Mendik for his leadership and valuable insight and look forward to working with him in his continued role as a GCP board member."

Bernard Mendik is the former chairman of the Mendik Company, whose real estate portfolio of Manhattan office buildings was merged in 1997 into Vornado Realty trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust. As a real estate owner and developer, Mendik was involved as a principal in more than thirty acquisitions of major office and residential properties in Manhattan and the metropolitan area. Mendik will continue to be a GCP board member.

"My mission as GCP chairman is to continue the good work that Bernie has accomplished during this past year and a half," said Kalikow, chairman of the Grand Central Partnership. "He designed an excellent blueprint for success in both the team he assembled to be the executive staff and in the many talented people that he has recruited as board members."

Kalikow began his real estate career in 1967 and became president of H.J. Kalikow & Co. in 1973. He is the third generation to preside over his family's 75 year-old real estate company. Kalikow is also vice chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, and a participant in every major real estate association, including acting as a governor of the Real Estate Board of New York.

Founded in 1988, the Grand Central Partnership is one of the largest business improvement districts in the U.S. GCP provides supplemental sanitation and security services to property owners in an irregularly bounded area from 35th Street to 54th Street and Second Avenue to Fifth Avenues.
