KUWAIT PETROLEUM CORPORATION TO DISPLAY OIL FIELD EXHIBIT IN HOUSTON

KUWAIT PETROLEUM CORPORATION TO DISPLAY OIL FIELD EXHIBIT IN HOUSTON
KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Five months ahead of schedule, the fires are out and Kuwait's petroleum industry is on its way to a full recovery. Thanks to the U.S. backed coalition of firefighters, Burgan 118, the last blazing well was capped in a formal ceremony last week after more than eight months of an intense and often dangerous battle against the world's worst oilfield disaster.
To honor those who took part in the firefighting effort, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) will hold a three day exhibit beginning Nov. 17 at the 1991 American Petroleum Institute annual meeting in Houston. KPC will exhibit photographs of the Bechtel-organized firefighting activity in the Kuwait oilfields, as well as a video documentary on the firefighting effort.
The exhibit will be held Nov. 17-19 in the Exhibit Hall of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Exhibit times are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday, and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Kuwait Petroleum officials will be on hand to talk with exhibit visitors about the oil field devastation and the recovery process.
"Had it not been for the U.S. backed coalition, Kuwait's oil industry would not be recovering today," said Minister of Oil Hmood AlRqoobah. "Kuwait appreciates the commitment and friendship displayed by the American and international oil community, as well as our loyal customers."
A total of 727 burning and gushing oil wells have been extinguished and capped since Kuwait was liberated in February. In all, 27 firefighting teams from 10 countries were mobilized. More than 10,000 personnel and 145,000 tons of equipment were deployed for this recovery effort.
