KURTZE NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT-OPERATIONS FOR SPRINT LOCAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

 KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) announced today that A. Allan Kurtze, currently senior vice president of business planning and development, has been named senior vice president- operations for Sprint's Local Telecommunications Division.
 Kurtze, 48, joined Sprint in March following the company's merger with Centel Corp. In his new position he will be responsible for the local telecommunications division's engineering, information services, marketing and revenue requirement areas.
 "Al's experience in both regulated and unregulated businesses will be extremely valuable as we pursue the local division's strategic plans," said D. Wayne Peterson, president and chief operating officer of Sprint's Local Telecommunications Division.
 "His background in planning, technology applications and cable television is most appropriate for the environment we are entering."
 Kurtze joined Centel in 1972 and held sales management positions until being named assistant vice president-marketing of Centel Communications Company in 1977. In 1978, he became vice president-staff of Centel Business System. In 1983, he was named vice president-market planning for the corporation, and, one year later, was named group vice president-Centel Cable Television Co. In 1986, Kurtze became senior vice president-planning and technology for the corporation, and was named executive vice president in 1991.
 Before joining Centel, Kurtze held management positions with C&P Telephone Co. of Maryland.
 Kurtze attended the University of Maryland and has an MBA from the University of Chicago.
