KRS-One is back with his hip-hop as history message.

Byline: Carolyn Lamberson The Register-Guard

It's been a year since the hip-hop legend KRS-One last played Eugene.

The Brooklyn-born artist, who made his debut with 1987's "Criminal Minded,' is still on tour in support of his 2004 album "Keep Right."

Shortly before he played the WOW Hall on March 5, 2004, the rapper also known as "Teacher" talked to The Register-Guard about his mission, a call to unity in the hip-hop community. "This is a call to the listener to take hip-hop beyond entertainment and think about the fact that hip-hop is what we are called in world history.'

His long-held theory - that "rap is something we do, hip-hop is something we live' - is beginning to take hold, he said last year.

"Today I can say the first half - `Rap is something we do' - and the whole audience will say, `Hip-hop is something we live,' and they'll say it with vigor.'

Fans can see for themselves when KRS-One returns to the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave., at 8 p.m. Thursday. Joining him will be Boom Bap Project Boom Bap Project is an underground hip hop group from Seattle, Washington, currently signed to Rhymesayers record label.
