KRISTI YAMAGUCHI DEBUTS AS TV SPOKESPERSON ON JAN. 9

 CHICAGO, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- 1992 Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi has always glided smoothly through the world of figure skating -- from pairs to singles, from amateur to professional. Now, as spokesperson for DuraSoft(R) Colors contact lenses, Yamaguchi tries her hand in yet another arena -- the world of television advertising.
 On Jan. 9, Yamaguchi will debut in her first national television commercial, which will air during ABC's Wide World of Sports' coverage of the DuraSoft Colors Challenge of Champions, Yamaguchi's most recent professional competition. In the 30-second spot, Yamaguchi dons several shades of DuraSoft Colors lenses.
 "Kristi was the perfect choice for our spokesperson," says Charles Stroupe, president of Wesley-Jessen. "She is a very expressive skater on the ice with a natural sparkle in her eyes. What better eyes to show off DuraSoft Colors!"
 In the commercial, created by Foote, Cone & Belding/Chicago, Kristi says that ever since she won the gold, some of the changes she's asked to consider include shooting a swimsuit calendar, taking on a second sport (tennis), selling her own salad dressing and hosting her own talk show.
 But as Kristi says, when she wants a little change, she goes green or violet or gray....
 "The foundation of the creative strategy is to simply demonstrate that changing your eye color can be a lot of fun ... a way of showing you don't take yourself too seriously," said Mitch Engel, executive vice president and managing director of Foote, Cone & Belding/Chicago. "With Kristi's personality we had a unique opportunity to capture the fun in the spot."
 Kristi's DuraSoft Colors spot will run on national networks through March 20, including telecasts of the DuraSoft Colors World Professional Figure Skating Championships(R) and DuraSoft Colors Challenge of Champions figure skating event.
