The Tekelec EAGLE 5 ISS supports Sigtran (SS7 over IP) signaling, which is a stepping stone for cost-effectively migrating to IP multimedia subsystem An integrated network for telecommunications carriers that uses the IP protocol as its foundation for packetized voice, video and data. Sigtran provides increased capacity over IP--resulting in reduced link quantity requirements, more efficient bandwidth utilization, enhanced services and reduced transport cost. Together, these benefits allow operators to offer their customers new, more advanced services at competitive prices.

"We selected Tekelec to upgrade our signaling network because of the company's global leadership in IP signaling and integrated applications," said Michael Vocke, manager, Mobile Network, KPN. "With the EAGLE 5 ISS, Tekelec delivers a highly reliable and cost-effective solution for the transition to an all-IP mobile core network which will enable us to provide our customers with the next-generation services they require."

Wolrad Claudy, managing director for Tekelec's operations in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, added, "We are delivering a roadmap for operators to advance to tomorrow's next-generation networks while continuing to support today's network requirements. We welcome this opportunity to continue expanding our footprint in Europe and look forward to helping KPN retain its competitive position by delivering advanced services to its customers."
