NETWORKS, provider of open storage solutions and networked storage management strategies to enterprises and institutions, has added two new products to its array of storage virtualization Treating storage as a single logical entity without regard to the hierarchy of physical media that may be involved or that may change. It enables the applications to read from and write to a single pool of storage rather then individual disks, tapes and optical devices.  software. OptiWorx and ShieldWorx join StealthWorx as part of KOM's growing offering of storage virtualization software solutions.

OptiWorx virtualizes optical storage by establishing Virtual Volumes that integrate multiple data storage devices and technologies into one homogeneous virtual storage repository that is dynamically scalable up to 500 petabytes. Like Stealth Worx, OptiWorx maximizes return on investment while providing capacity for future storage expansion that meets the growing needs and demands of any organization. Optical storage devices, such as WORM, Rewritable, DVD-ROM DVD-ROM: see digital versatile disc.

A read-only DVD disc used to permanently store data files. DVD-ROM discs are widely used to distribute large software applications that exceed the capacity of a CD-ROM disc.
, DVD-RAM A rewritable DVD disc endorsed by the DVD Forum. Using phase change technology, DVD-RAMs are like removable hard disks, and the media can be rewritten 100,000 times compared to 1,000 times for DVD-RW and DVD+RW. The first DVD-RAM drives with a capacity of 2.6GB (single sided) or 5. , and CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

ShieldWorx is a technology for the desktop that allows users to fully protect files on their PCs with innovative security features. Using its Read-Only Mode, any hard disk partition See partition.  (other than the partition that the operating system resides on) can be set to a "Read-only" state. The only possible operation is to read data when Read-Only Mode is invoked. All other operations are disabled thus preventing data from being altered or modified. This means that users are unable to create, delete, rename, move, or over-write files on the specified partition. ShieldWorx also features an Archive Mode that safeguards existing data from malicious or unintentional modification, while allowing new data to be added to the hard drive partition.

"ShieldWorx takes desktop security to a new level that protects the user's data from viruses, hackers, and other threats; all the while maintaining total data integrity and security," said Jeffrey Dale, President of KOM NETWORKS.
