KODAK ANALYZER TO MONITOR ATHLETES' HEALTH
 DURING SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES
ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- A clinical analyzer manufactured and marketed by Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) will help monitor athletes' health during the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, to be held July 25 through Aug. 9 in Barcelona, Spain.
The Kodak Ektachem 700 XR analyzer C series will be used in follow-up studies of athletes participating in various events including track and field, swimming and basketball. Tests will include those for lactic acid, cholesterol, HDL, glucose, total protein, total bilirubin and triglycerides. Test results will be used to determine if an individual is suffering from mineral deficiencies or other abnormalities.
The Ektachem analyzer is installed in El Hospital del Mar, close to the Olympic Village in Barcelona. The hospital provides full medical service and support to competitors, officials and all members of the "Olympic family" during the course of the games. The analyzer delivers up to 750 tests per hour and its high-volume capacity will enable Olympics personnel to keep pace with testing demands at even peak times.
"The analyzer is almost a complete clinical chemistry laboratory in itself," explained Ruth Unzicker, vice president, marketing, Kodak Clinical Products Division. "It's easy to operate and uses 'clean- handling' dry-chemistry technology that eliminates the need to dispose of wet reagent materials." Unzicker also noted that the Ektachem 700 XR analyzer C series was used during the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.
