KNOX RUNS TO A RECORD RB BREAKS SCHOOL MARK, BIRMINGHAM ON TO TITLE GAME BIRMINGHAM 20, CRENSHAW 6.

Byline: IVAN OROZCO Staff Writer

LAKE BALBOA Balboa, town (1990 pop. 2,751), Colón prov., in the former Panama Canal Zone, on the Gulf of Panama. The port for Panama City, Balboa was the administrative headquarters of the Panama Canal Zone. It was also the site of a U.S. navy base (closed 1999).  -- When asked to describe Milton Knox's season, Birmingham of Lake Balboa head coach Ed Croson needed only three words.

``Not over yet,'' Croson said.

That's because Knox helped extend the host Patriots' season with a 291- yard performance on 30 carries in a 20-6 City Section championship semifinal win against defending champion defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título

The top-seeded Patriots (10-3) will play Dec. 9 at the Coliseum Coliseum: see Colosseum.  as they try for their third City title in the past four years. The Patriots won the championship game in 2002 and 2004. They will face San Pedro next week.

Knox needed 220 yards coming into the game to break the school record set by Emmanuel Evans in 1997, when Evans finished with 2,172 yards.

Knox left the field Friday night with 2,243 yards.

The Patriots' running back broke the record on a 75-yard scamper down the middle of the field to put the game out of reach at 18-0 with 4:50 left in the thirdquarter. ``You don't really think about it, it's just blank,'' Knox said about the run. ``One thing was don't get caught, just keep on going.

``Crenshaw had a good defense. They came out and they were sticking it to me. But I just ran through holes the O-line opened for me.''

Knox, a 5-foot-8, 200-pound running back, added three touchdowns to bring his season total to 26.

His first of the night came on a Patriots' eight-play, 50-yard drive. He snaked his way to the end zone from 15 yards out, freezing Crenshaw defenders with a few shakes and cuts along the way for a 6-0Birmingham lead. The No. 5-seeded Cougars (9-4) kept Knox out of the end zone on the ensuing en·sue

The Patriots' junior running back couldn't cross the goal line on his secondtwo-point conversion attempt either, after he bulldozed through the middle of the Crenshaw defense from 11 yards out for a 12-0 lead with 6:36 left in the first half.

``I've been watching (Knox) do that for a while,'' Croson said. ``He's a good football player. We're still alive.''

Knox's second score was set up by a James Beloff 20-yard pass to De'von Flournoy. Beloff took a hard hit on the play and had to sit out for three plays, favoring his right knee.

While Knox took care of the scoring, the Patriots' defense held the Cougars to 83 total yards of offense while intercepting two Cameron Hart passes and sacking sack·ing
