KNOWLEDGEWARE RELEASES NEW FLASHPOINT(TM) ENHANCEMENTS Desktop Integration of Legacy Applications Now Faster, More Flexible

BOSTON, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In a suite of announcements of client/server application development tools, KnowledgeWare, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: KNOW) today announced the release of Flashpoint 3.04 and disclosed plans for two more releases within the next nine months.
Flashpoint is KnowledgeWare's Windows-based tool for quickly creating new graphical user interfaces for legacy applications, as well as integrating data from a variety of applications at the desktop.
Through more efficient memory management and compiler optimization, release 3.04 increases the performance and efficiency of Flashpoint- created graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for legacy applications. In addition, Flashpoint 3.04 enhances support for desktop graphics.
"Almost every company is moving to client/server processing, but many have robust mainframe-based applications that cannot be quickly or easily replaced," commented Donald P. Addington, KnowledgeWare president and chief operating officer. "Flashpoint is a proven way for companies to gain many benefits of client/server processing without scrapping their existing systems. This release greatly enhances Flashpoint's performance and flexibility in its role of extending the life of legacy applications."
Tadd Stuart, senior programmer/analyst for UNUM Life Insurance Company of America, said: "To provide our 42 offices with desktop policy processing, we used Flashpoint to create easy-to-use GUIs for our four mainframe-based systems. In some cases, we integrated data fields from several legacy applications into a single GUI. Although performance was always good, with this latest release of Flashpoint, we've clocked as much as 80 percent faster processing speeds to populate our PC-based screens with data fields from several mainframe applications."
Flashpoint 3.05, slated for August, will further enhance developer productivity, application performance and communication protocol support. In particular, the August release will extend the scope of user interface design to take advantage of the latest Microsoft Windows technology. Flashpoint 3.05 will also offer TCP/IP solutions through the support of PCNFS, Novell LAN Workplace, PC/TCP and DEC Pathworks protocols. Future Flashpoint releases will support other protocols as well. In addition to the 3.04 and 3.05 releases, KnowledgeWare plans a major release of Flashpoint for the first half of 1994. Details about the release were not disclosed. KnowledgeWare recently announced that Flashpoint, along with its other application development tools, will support Microsoft's Windows NT operating system.
KnowledgeWare is the market leader in providing application development solutions for client/server, mid-range and mainframe environments.
