The Knights enter the second week of the postseason as the Antelope Valley's lone hope to win a Southern Section girls' soccer championship.

After Paraclete, Knight and Quartz Hill were eliminated in Wednesday's wild-card round, Highland, Lancaster and Rosamond suffered first-round exits Friday, shifting the spotlight solely on Desert Christian.

The Knights (20-1-2), the top seed in Div. VI, continued their dominance with a 12-0 victory over Milken Community of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  in their playoff opener Friday at Lancaster National Soccer Center.

Robyn Estrada, who leads Desert Christian with 32 goals, was one of three Knights to record a hat trick hat trick

"We have a lot of good talent with our (outside halfbacks) and in the middle," Estrada said. "We've been playing really well lately and our goal is to make it all the way to the finals."

Desert Christian, which won a division title in 2003 before losing the past three seasons in the quarterfinals, plays Marshall of Pasadena (12-4) -- a 5-1 winner over Sierra Vista of Baldwin Park Baldwin Park, city (1990 pop. 69,330), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles, in the fertile San Gabriel valley; settled 1870, inc. 1956. "It's been four years (since the school has won a title)," Estrada said. "Nobody on this team was part of that, so we want a ring. We want one of those sparkly spark·ly

Back to the drawing board: For the third consecutive season, Highland's girls' soccer team won the Golden League title.

And for the third year in a row, the Bulldogs (12-5-7) weren't able to parlay An open programming interface (API) to a service provider's network (the network operator), developed by the Parlay Group (www.parlay.org). By enabling the customer's application to talk directly to the network, it allows the end user to have greater access to network information as well  their regular-season success into a lengthy playoff run.

Highland suffered a 4-2 first-round setback setback

"It hurts because I thought this team, and I still think this team, was deeper than the past two years," said Highland coach Juan Paolo, whose team rallied from a 1-4-6 start to go unbeaten in its last 12 regular-season games.

"But it shows how tough their league is. They have power from first place all the way to last. Anybody can beat anybody because it's a well-balanced league.

"It's hard for us because there are only a few games in our league when we're really tested. They have this type of competition every night."

Highland, which extended its league unbeaten streak to 34 in a row during the regular season, surrendered a goal in the first minute against Westlake and fell behind 3-0 at halftime.

"We never had a chance to get started," said Paolo, who received two second-half goals from senior sweeper Alex Fulladosa.

Battling until the end: Patty Garcia didn't close out her four-year career at Lancaster (14-9-2) with a victory, but did manage to score a goal in her final game, a 2-1 loss in the Div. II playoffs at Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. .

"I'm not disappointed. We played hard and we tried, so we ended OK," Garcia said. "They're a good team. They played aggressive."

Lancaster's second-half effort was one of the more impressive put forth by a Golden League team in the postseason. The league went 0-4 in the Div. II playoffs.
