KNIGHT DROPS MANSION PLAN MUSIC MOGUL WON'T SEEK OK TO BUILD THEATER COMPLEX.

Byline: Dominic Berbeo Staff Writer

ENCINO - Death Row Records founder Marion ``Suge'' Knight has decided not to expand a mansion he owns on an Encino cul-de-sac because of community opposition, officials said Thursday.

Knight had been seeking city permission to add a theater and entertainment complex to a 9,000-square-foot home he is completing after spending five years in prison.

The Daily News reported last week that neighbors are concerned about the possibility that the music mogul Mogul: see Mughal.  would live on the 1.8-acre property and throw loud parties in the quiet neighborhood near the Skirball Center.

But now Knight has withdrawn the expansion request and simply wants to complete construction of the home as previously planned, said Ana Vidal, an assistant city planner.

``They told us they want to build just the house portion of it, but we need to see it in writing before we can make a decision on that,'' she said.

Record label spokesman Jonathan Wolfson, who last week said Knight was completing the home as a possible home or ``positive thing'' for youths, on Thursday said Knight had no comment.
