 KMART LAUNCHES DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS
 TO HELP FLORIDA HURRICANE ANDREW VICTIMS
 TROY, Mich., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today announced a multi-step relief effort to help Florida victims of Hurricane Andrew. The company will present a $20,000 check to the American Red Cross for immediate aid to ravaged Florida communities.
 In cooperation with Weyerhauser Corporation, Kmart also will donate a truckload of 800 cartons of diapers to victims of Hurricane Andrew. The diapers will be distributed by the Red Cross.
 Kmart associates at 130 stores in Florida communities unharmed by the hurricane have launched disaster relief fund-raising and supply collection efforts. Associates of eight Kmart stores in Georgia, two in Alabama, one in Kentucky and one in Pennsylvania also will join in these efforts. Beginning immediately, Kmart associates will sponsor local fund-raising events such as bake sales and car washes, proceeds from which will directly support the Red Cross' relief efforts.
 The participating Florida, Georgia and Alabama Kmart stores also will serve as collection sites for customers and associates to donate new clothing, baby food, diapers and other supplies. The supplies will be distributed through area United Way agencies to hurricane victims.
 Kmart has 159 stores in Florida. An estimated six Kmart stores sustained hurricane damage, though the amount of damage is yet to be determined.

Kmart, currently operating 2,383 Kmart stores, is also the parent company for PACE Membership Warehouse, Builders Square, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks, The Sports Authority and OfficeMax.
