KMART CORPORATION REPORTS OCTOBER SALES INCREASE
TROY, Mich., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM)
today reported a sales increase of 11.1% for October 1992 over sales
during the same period of last year. Consolidated sales for the
 four-week period ended October 28, 1992 amounted to $2,758,509,000,
versus sales of $2,482,674,000 for the four weeks ended October 30,
 1991.
Sales for the 39 weeks ended October 28, 1992 were $26,251,924,000,
up 9.3% from the $24,016,735,000 for the first 39 weeks of 1991.
Kmart Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Joseph E. Antonini said, "Sales continued to strengthen in October,
following a good September period. We are most encouraged by this
upturn in business. Unfortunately, Halloween, October 31, was on
Saturday this year, compared with Thursday in 1991, and this pushed
a significant amount of sales of Halloween-related merchandise into
our November selling period, adversely affecting sales comparisons
in the last week of the month."
Kmart Corporation serves America with over 4,000 retail outlets in
all 50 states in the United States and in Puerto Rico, Canada and
Czechoslovakia. Kmart, currently operating 2,391 Kmart stores, is

Square, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks, The Sports Authority,
 OfficeMax and Borders.
