DALLAS - George Parros' contributions to the Kings often come after he drops his stick, not while he's holding it. As the Kings' designated enforcer, Parros' fists mostly are what he uses to earn a paycheck.

But for one night, Parros could bask in the offensive glory. In the Kings' victory Thursday over Dallas, Parros recorded his first NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  goal and added an assist on the Kings' second goal.

``I had (a scoring chance) the other night and I didn't put it away,'' Parros said. ``When you play with guys like this, you have to take advantage.''

Parros, a 25-year-old rookie out of Princeton who was something of an underdog to make the Kings' roster out of training camp, has played in all eight games and has three points and 26 penalty minutes.

``You get rewarded sometimes on the score sheet,'' Parros said. ``Any time you can contribute on the offensive side, it feels good, especially when the team wins.''

Parros is no stone-handed thug. He scored 14 goals in 67 games for Manchester in the American Hockey League

``He's a solid person, and very intelligent, as his Princeton education would indicate,'' coach Andy Murray said. ``His career has been limited to this point, but it's been gratifying grat·i·fy

--Different strategies: On Wednesday night, Murray stuck with goalie Mathieu Garon Mathieu Garon (born January 9, 1978 in Chandler, Quebec) is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

scored his 655th NHL goal in the second period Thursday, but it was probably the only one ever recorded retroactively.

It started innocuously enough, when Robitaille ripped a slap shot from near the left boards that appeared to glance off the goal post or miss the net entirely. Play continued for another 92 seconds, until Pavol Demitra was whistled for a penalty and the video-review judge looked at the play.

After an examination of the net, Robitaille was awarded a goal and the clock was reset. At the time, eight seconds remained in the period, but officials reset the clock to 1:40 remaining.

``He's seen plenty go in, so he knows,'' center Craig Conroy said of Robitaille. ``Not many guys can shoot that hard.''

--Walking wounded: Sean Avery was scratched from Thursday's game with a sprained ankle, which he suffered the previous night in Colorado. Avery came out for pregame warmups but left the ice early, and his spot in the lineup was taken by Ken Belanger.
