KINGS NOTEBOOK: NHL TO LOOK INTO FIGHT.

Byline: Roger Phillips

The NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  will take a closer look today at an incident Saturday involving the Kings' Mattias Norstrom and Rob Blake For other persons of the same name, see Robert Blake.

Robert Bowlby "Rob" Blake (born December 10 1969, in Simcoe, Ontario) is a professional ice hockey defenceman in the NHL, playing for the Los Angeles Kings where he is the captain.
, and San Jose's Brantt Myhres Brantt Myhres (born March 18, 1974 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a professional hockey player, formerly a left winger for the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights of the AHL. He is 6'4" tall, 220 lbs in weight and shoots right. . As a result, the Sharks may be without their enforcer for a while.

Myhres was suspended for the Sharks' game Monday night in Phoenix for leaving the bench to start an altercation during San Jose's 2-0 loss to the Kings at the Forum. A hearing is scheduled for today to determine whether Myhres will receive a longer sentence.

It all started in the first period Saturday, when Myhres stepped off his bench and went after Norstrom, who was stepping onto his bench moments after leveling San Jose's Alex Korolyuk with a hard, clean check. Myhres smacked the butt end of his stick above Norstrom's right eye, opening a cut that took several stitches to close. Blake, who was on the bench, then duked it out with Myhres. Both players were given game misconducts.

As for Blake's role in the scrap, Kings coach Larry Robinson For U.S. basketball player, see Larry Robinson (basketball).

Larry Clark Robinson (born June 2 1951, in Winchester, Ontario, Canada) was a star player and a coach in the National Hockey League. He is currently an assistant coach of the New Jersey Devils.
said, ``All he was doing was standing up for his teammate, who was being pummeled on the bench. When a guy comes after you on the bench, what are you supposed to do, kiss him?''

Asked if he was paying close attention to how long a suspension Myhres would receive, Norstrom said, ``Not really. It's a tough situation for him. He's there to stick up for his teammates. I still feel my check was a clean check. There was nothing dirty about it. . . . I won't change the way I play. That's my style, to play physical and hit guys. I know once in a while I'll tick people off. That comes with it. If I want to run around a little bit, I've got to keep my head up.''

Even when he's off the ice, though?

``Once you're on the bench,'' Norstrom admitted, ``you kind of let your guard down.''

Fiset suffered stiffness in his chronically ailing groin Saturday, so the Kings are being careful with him. ``We're trying to be as cautious as possible,'' Robinson said. ``Setbacks are not what we need at this point. We're trying to get everybody healthy, get everybody going.''
