KINGS NOTEBOOK: NHL HONORS GOALIE GARON.

The last thing Mathieu Garon Mathieu Garon (born January 9, 1978 in Chandler, Quebec) is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

He was drafted 44th by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

The first-year Kings goalie knows it takes a team to build a defense, so much like the pucks he has consistently deflected this season, he quickly swatted away much of the personal praise directed his way after hearing about the honor.

``I'm the one who gets the final result but it's totally a team effort, defensively and offensively,'' Garon said. ``Defensively we've been getting the job one and offensively we're scoring a lot of goals. That adds up to winning hockey.''

Garon went 9-3 in December with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. He started the season splitting goalie duties with Jason LaBarbera, but has started 21 of the past 26 games since Nov. 9. Overall, he's 18-8 with a 2.67 GAA GAA Goals Against Average (Hockey)

``Our reports on him as far back as juniors were always positive and favorable,'' Kings general manager Dave Taylor said. ``He's definitely someone we've kept a close eye on over the years.''

--Belanger goes on IR: The Kings placed center Eric Belanger on the injured reserve list Injured Reserve is a special sports reserve list for professional teams to use if a player is injured and unable to play for a period of time. It is used so that that player does not take up a roster spot. In baseball, a similar list called the disabled list is used.  (retroactive to Dec. 30) because of a groin injury. Belanger, 28, suffered the injury Dec. 27 at Phoenix.

To replace Belanger, the Kings agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent center Connor James and have recalled him from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League
