``This definitely was the best we've seen of him,'' Murray said. ``He is a very skilled player, but he wasn't going to make the team to start the season, and we thought it was best to get him to Manchester to start their camp.''

The remaining prospects signed during the summer are Alexander Frolov, Mike Cammellari and Jared Aulin.

When camp opened three weeks ago, it appeared there were two open spots on the club's two offensive lines. But now the Kings are working third-year center Eric Belanger at left wing on the second unit with Bryan Smolinski and perhaps Ziggy Palffy.

Frolov, who had a goal and an assist Wednesday in a loss to Colorado, appears to be the front runner to play on the top line with Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh.

--Banged up: Ken Belanger, the Kings' top enforcer last season, skated for one of the few times during camp. Belanger, sidelined for a month last season with a broken left wrist, has been bothered by a sore lower back.

Ryan Flinn, who was so impressive as Belanger's replacement last year, also is out with lower-back problems and could miss the season opener. Kip Brennan, third on the tough guy depth chart, impressed coaches with several big hits during Thursday's 3-2 victory over Phoenix.

--Quick whistles: Lehoux showed speed and quickness Thursday but missed a penalty shot and a breakaway opportunity. ... Defenseman Brad Norton, in camp on a tryout basis after playing 22 games for Florida last season, continues to get playing time. The Kings already were looking for Looking for

``Whether you are a general manager, a coach or a teammate, you sleep better at night when you have Sean Burke on your roster,'' Coyotes general manager Michael Barnett said.

The 35-year-old Burke was a finalist last season for the Vezina Trophy, which goes to the NHL's top goalie.
