EL SEGUNDO El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. , signed the last of their top four prospects Thursday, agreeing to terms with Mike Cammalleri from the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries. .

Since the end of last season, the Kings have reached deals with centers Jared Aulin Jared Aulin (born March 15, 1982 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is a retired professional hockey centre who played for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League. He currently plays in Canadian Interuniversity Sport with the University of Calgary Dinos.  and Yanick Lehoux Yanick Lehoux (born April 8, 1982, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian hockey player for the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He attended to Phoenix Coyotes training camp, but was reassigned to AHL quickly.  and left winger Alexander Frolov Alexander Alexandrovich "Alex" Frolov (Russian: Александр Александрович "Алекс" .

But faced with the possibility of losing the rights to Cammalleri through a loophole in the signing process, the Kings acted quickly after the 5-foot-9 center told the club this week he would not be returning to college for his senior year.

Cammalleri, 20, had the option to leave school and sign with a junior team in Canada, then become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Kings gave him a three-year deal that could pay him around the same $3.5 million Frolov received if he plays in the NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  throughout the life of the contract.

``Michael made it clear that he was going to explore his options,'' general manager Dave Taylor said. ``We are pleased to have him under contract.''

Michigan center, Mike Comrie, left school and joined a junior team to earn his free agency. He signed with Edmonton and last season led the Oilers with 33 goals.

Cammalleri was selected in the second round (49th overall) in the 2000-01 draft. His size scared some teams from taking him in the first round, but he has excelled at Michigan with 52 goals in 71 games the past two seasons.

Instead of playing his final season at Michigan, Cammalleri has a chance to move onto the Kings' top two lines.

The club would love to see Cammalleri and Frolov make the team and allow it to bypass the need to acquire a potentially expensive veteran player. Last season, when the Kings finished 40-27-11-4 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Colorado, their payroll was $41.9 million, 10th in the NHL.

Aulin and Lehoux also will be in training camp, which begins Sept. 13, but they recently played to mixed reviews at the Kings' developmental camp. They are expected to open the season with the Kings' minor-league affiliate in Manchester, N.H.

Although Cammalleri is a center, he will be given a chance to play right wing on the first line with Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh.

Top goal scorer Ziggy Palffy could be moved down to the second unit with Brian Smolinski and perhaps Frolov.
