Robitaille improves: Luc Robitaille, expected to miss at least the rest of the month with a fractured left foot, skated for the second consecutive day and reported no discomfort.

Robitaille was sluggish on the ice Monday when he tested the foot for the first time on the ice. He originally suffered the injury Oct. 28 against Pittsburgh but played the next three games until an MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Robitaille was cleared to resume skating Monday morning at the Kings' Iceoplex training facility after an MRI showed the break had healed.

Robitaille has maintained a rigorous conditioning program during his time on injured reserve but probably will require a week to regain his timing.

Sakic back: Colorado center Joe Sakic, sidelined since Nov. 5 with torn cartilage in his rib cage rib cage

, returned Tuesday against the Kings with a flourish.

Needing just two points to reach 1,000 for his career, Sakic had the game's first goal, when he poked the puck past Storr with 12:08 gone in the opening period. It was his sixth of the season and 381st of his career.

Within the first five minutes, it was clear Sakic, who missed six games including the Nov. 11 game at the Staples Center, was back. Just 1:49 into the game, Sakic had an excellent scoring chance in front after taking a pass from Milan Hejduk.

Less than three minutes later, Sakic was alone in front of Storr but was pulled down by defenseman Garry Galley. Despite the power-play opportunity, the Avs did not score. The next time they had the man advantage, with Steve McKenna off for interference, Sakic scored.

KINGS vs. DALLAS

Time: 5:30 p.m., at Reunion Arena.

TV/Radio: No TV; KRLA-AM (1110).

Matchup: The second of back-to-back games is never an easy assignment, but the Kings might be facing the defending Stanley Cup champion at a good time. The Stars, coming off an overtime loss to Colorado on Monday, are last in the Pacific Division and 10th overall in the Western Conference. The Stars have been hit hard by injuries. Tonight, they will play without left winger Jere Lehtinen (broken ankle), right winger Grant Marshall (torn groin), defenseman Shawn Chambers (knee surgery), center Roman Lyashenko (shoulder) and defenseman Alan Letang (shoulder). Dallas players are wearing the logo of Texas A&M on their helmets in tribute to the students who died in last week's bonfire accident at the school.
