KINGS NOTEBOOK: KINGS HOPE LEHOUX HAS GROWN UP.

Byline: Matt McHale Staff Writer

EL SEGUNDO El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  - Yanick Lehoux Yanick Lehoux (born April 8, 1982, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian hockey player for the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He attended to Phoenix Coyotes training camp, but was reassigned to AHL quickly.  had four goals in the first three games of the Kings' prospects tournament that ends tonight with the championship game.

To some, these are little more than air-hockey games at the local arcade. But to fans who have been waiting for Lehoux to blossom since the club drafted him three years ago, it is big news.

The one-time junior-hockey scoring sensation struggled in his first professional season at minor-league Manchester, N.H. He was benched more than a few times for weak efforts on the defensive end.

In L.A. they were talking about Lehoux and none of it was good. When the Kings nearly called up the entire Manchester roster last season due to injuries, Lehoux's phone never rang. At age 20, he seemed like a has-been.

``It was a very tough season,'' Lehoux said Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. . ``In juniors I was always the go-to guy. When I would do something wrong last year, I got sat down. I wasn't used to that, but I learned a lot from it. You can't coast for a minute at this level.''

Lehoux finished last season with 16 goals and 37 points in 78 games for the Monarchs. But it was his sluggish performance in last year's training camp that lingered in the mind of Kings coach Andy Murray.

When reminded that Lehoux scored 67 goals in 70 games for Baie-Comeau in the Quebec junior league in 2000, Murray quipped, ``Even (scrappy) Ian Laperriere Ian Laperrière (born January 19, 1974 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is an ice hockey player in the NHL. He played in the QMJHL 1990-1993 and was drafted by the St. Louis Blues of the NHL in the 7th round and pick number 158 in the 1992 draft.  was a scorer in that league.''

Lehoux was a 170-pound center when he was taken with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 draft. This summer, an aggressive conditioning program built his weight to 215 pounds.

``We think that is a little heavy for him,'' Kings general manager Dave Taylor said. ``It seems to have cost him a little of his quickness. We'd like to have him around 205.''

Lehoux was in Montreal during the summer and works out with an elite group of NHL players The list of National Hockey League (NHL) players is divided into the following lists:

goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Even though Giguere got married in July and was the talk of hockey after his stirring playoff run with the Ducks, he was there for more than a month in the summer.

At Manchester, Lehoux will be working with assistant Dane Jackson Dane Jackson (born May 17, 1970, in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey right wing who spent parts of 4 seasons in the National Hockey League between 1993 and 1998. , a former NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  player who was captain of the Monarchs the past two seasons. --Quick whistles: Forward Mike Cammallari, sidelined the final six weeks last season with a concussion, will not play in tonight's championship game due to a stained hip. He is expected to be ready for training camp, which opens Friday. ... Denis Grebeshkov, the former No. 1 (2002) with a chance to make the team, also has been out after getting slashed on the wrist early in the tournament.
