``They're not hitting, they can't do that until they're cleared,'' coach Andy Murray said Friday. ``But they are leaning on sticks and being more physical. Nothing is etched in stone, but that is good to see.''

Team physician Michael Mellman will examine both Monday. Mellman has pointed out that though Deadmarsh and Allison have suffered concussions, their conditions are different. Deadmarsh was injured in December after he was struck in the head by teammate Craig Johnson Craig Johnson may refer to:

Deadmarsh's recovery is ahead of Allison's, but Murray said he was encouraged to see Allison complete the Kings' last two practices.

Allison said he does not plan to wear a protective neck guard to prevent another whiplash.

``I don't go for that stuff,'' Allison said. ``Last year, after I injured my knee, I didn't like to wear a knee brace.''

Kariya turned down a multiyear deal with the Ducks to sign a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Avs in July. It is far less than the $10 million he made last season with the Ducks, but Kariya is eligible for unrestricted free agency next July.

``We talked a little after practice (Tuesday),'' Murray said. ``I didn't sense it was anything personal against the Ducks. Paul is just looking forward to the challenge.''

If Deadmarsh and Allison are ready to open the season, there will be only one opening on the top two offensive lines. Murray appears to favor Klatt's all-around game over Robitaille, who has two goals and four points in three exhibitions. ... Ex-Kings goaltender Felix Potvin is having a rough camp with the Boston Bruins. He has allowed 13 goals in his past two outings, including seven in a loss to Detroit on Thursday.
