KINGS NOTEBOOK: CRAWFORD, PLAYERS PUT DEFEAT IN PERSPECTIVE.

Byline: Matthew Kredell

Staff Writer

EL SEGUNDO -- One after another, Kings players came off the ice with faces flushed red from exhaustion.

After an hour and 10 minutes of practice Wednesday, they were forced to skate wind sprints from one goal to around the other -- something they probably haven't done since training camp -- in an effort to work their way past their worst performance of the season.

"We hadn't done anything like that in a while," forward Patrick O'Sullivan said. "I don't think it necessarily had anything to do with the game but, at the same time, we had a hard practice today and I think that's good for us to forget about yesterday, come to rink today and work as hard as we could."

The team was 15 minutes late coming on to the ice because of a closed- door team meeting.

Kings coach Marc Crawford, who said he was the only one to speak at the meeting, pushed a plan for everyone to erase Tuesday's 7-0 home loss to Nashville from their memories.

"We have to move forward from (Tuesday) night," Crawford said.

"That game was not us. We know how we have to play, the effort we have to give and how we have to prepare to get that effort. That's what we concentrated on."

The Kings had at least been tied in the third period of their previous five games, winning three, before Tuesday's debacle. They hadn't lost by more than four goals all season.

"If nothing else, I think we talked about being committed to our team and how we need to play," O'Sullivan said. "We really have played well since Christmas with the exception of (Tuesday) night. We kind of got away from what we've been doing, so we've got to get back to that and I think we'll be fine."

Injury update

Michael Cammalleri came on the ice as practice was ending to skate around, as he did Monday. Again, he didn't handle any pucks. He said there was nothing new to report on his recovery from an injury to his ribs.
