KING DAY PROGRAMS SLATED AT AREA VENUES.

The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated with programs Sunday at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  and Monday at the Palmdale Playhouse.

The Lancaster celebration at the arts center, 750 W. Lancaster Boulevard, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday and will feature Professor Amen Rahh as the guest speaker.

Rahh is an associate professor of Black Studies at California State University Enrollment
, Long Beach, where he has taught for more than 20 years.

Marolyn Janice Walker, known for her dramatic interpretations, will be the guest performer. Walker has performed in such productions as "The Great White Hope," "Amen," "Jubliee" and "Showboat showboat. In the early 19th cent. entertainment was brought by boat to the pioneers that settled along the western rivers (especially the Mississippi and Ohio) of the United States. At first companies only traveled by boat, performing on land. ."

Music will be provided by the Southern California gospel group PHOCUS - or Pure Holy Obligated ob·li·gate

 Christians United to Serve - and the Community Choir, under the direction of Professor Ella V. Lane, minister of music at Liberty Baptist Church of Los Angeles.

Tickets are free and can be obtained at the theater's box office.

Palmdale's celebration will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E.

The Palmdale event will feature performances by a children's chorus, the Lancer Stompers Stompers were first created in 1980 by Schaper Toys. These toys were battery-powered vehicles that ran on a single AA battery and featured all-wheel drive. They were driven by a single motor that turned both axles.  dance group, and Latino dancers. The program will also include award presentations for essay and multimedia contests featuring the theme "What Price Freedom?"

Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford will deliver opening and closing remarks. The Rev. Alfred Smart will give the welcome and invocation. The keynote speaker will be KHJ KHJ Katholische Hochschuljugend (German: Catholic University Youth)  radio talk show host Diana Beard-Williams.

Admission is free.
