Officials couldn't supply attendance numbers, but said they had expected more visitors for Friday's opening than on opening day last year, when the fair kicked off on a Thursday. ``We've got a great crowd out there,'' said Wendy Talarico, fair spokeswoman. Talarico added that the chance to get away from busy lives is also a good reason to come. ``Today, life is so hectic, everyone is running around a mile a minute,'' she said. ``At the fair, they leave all that behind and spend quality time with family and friends and just have a kinder, simpler, funner time.''
