KILLER CAT ON PROWL; School launches leopard alert.

Byline: ROBERT McAULAY

URGENT safety patrols have been launched after a LEOPARD was spotted near a primary school.

Terrified kids have also been warned not to stray from the playground after the beast was seen prowling nearby.

A police helicopter has even joined the hunt after a clutch of sightings near Lochwinnoch Primary School, in Renfrewshire.

Last night, a spokesman for Renfrewshire Council said: "We are keeping the pupils' activities limited to the school grounds. And staff are carrying out patrols around the school on a regular basis."

The giant cat was first seen skulking with a dead animal in its mouth - and host of similar reports followed.

Resident George Bremner, 38, said: "I spotted a huge monster of a beast sitting in a field.

"There's no way it was a domestic cat, it was too big."

Mark Fraser, from The Scottish Big Cat Society, said the animal was probably a black leopard.
