LANCASTER - Some 260 outstanding eighth-graders from schools around the area visited Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  to learn about careers in astronomy, chemistry, physics, computer applications, medicine and aeronautics.

They heard from engineers and scientists, college instructors, pilots and a veterinarian in more than 30 workshops offering demonstrations and hands-on activities during Math and Science Odyssey 2003.

The college and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Dryden Flight Research Center The Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), located inside Edwards Air Force Base, is an aeronautical research center operated by NASA. On March 26, 1976 it was named in honor of the late Hugh L. , located at Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. , sponsored the program to encourage students to continue their studies in math, science and technology and to develop interest in careers in those fields.
