KIDS/SNEAK PEEK : BUTTERFLIES LAND AT NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM.

Let your imagination take flight at the Pavilion of Wings on the south lawn of the Natural History Museum beginning Saturday, where you'll be able to stroll through an enclosed area filled with free-flying butterflies.

Look for Giant Swallowtail The Giant Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio cresphontes) is a swallowtail butterfly common in various parts of North America, particularly the south and east. With a wingspan of about 10-16 cm[1] , it is the largest butterfly in the United States. , Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies. Kids and their families can also enjoy butterfly-themed activities throughout the day.

The museum is at 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . All things smelly

Visit the Los Angeles Children's Museum Children's museums are institutions that provide exhibits and programs that stimulate informal learning experiences for children. In contrast with traditional museums that typically have a hands-off policy regarding exhibits, children's museums feature interactive exhibits that are  for its sixth annual ``National Sense of Smell Day'' from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Kids will participate in activities that include making scented sachets in the art studio and exploring smelly water in the H2O exhibit.

Artist Danielle Michaelis will teach visitors about the medicinal properties Many plants have traditional medical uses. Ethnobotanists and pharmacognacists catalog and study these plants and uses. This is a list of some of the more common medicinal properties that are ascribed to plants.  of herbs, while performer Pat Payne will lead participants in a ``Scratch and Sniff Storytelling Workshop.''

Music and movement

KinderMusik of the Conejo and West San Fernando valleys is offering special summer sessions geared to children newborn to age 7.

The classes focus on introducing children to stimulating sounds and rhythms through singing, moving, listening and playing simple instruments.

Two sessions are being offered: Session 1 begins June 7 at the Christian Church of the Hills in Agoura; Session 2 begins June 23 at Oak Hills Elementary School elementary school: see school.  in Oak Park. Prices range from $39 to $80.

Meet Larry the cucumber Larry the Cucumber is a green cucumber character in the animated series, VeggieTales, by Big Idea Productions. Larry and co-star, Bob the Tomato, are the frontveggies for the series. , Junior asparagus Six-year-old Junior Asparagus is one of the most active co-stars of the VeggieTales series. Junior is a typical playful child, but also is wise beyond his years, taking the lead role in several videos, including "Where's God When I'm S-Scared?", "Dave and the Giant Pickle", and  and other assorted animated vegetables and journey with them on adventures to outer space or to the past, where they relive the Battle of Jericho with a decidedly modern flair.

The 30-minute tapes are based on Bible stories, but are cleverly adapted to appeal to young minds. Each video shares a simplified Bible story and includes a moral at the end.

There are currently nine videos available, including ``Larry-Boy! & the Fib From Outer Space'' and ``God Wants Me to Forgive Them'' Two new videos will be released June 8: ``Josh and the Big Wall'' and ``Very Silly Songs.''

Videos retail at Target stores for $9.99 but are also available at Wal-Mart and Kmart stores.
