Byline: - Nancy Hewitt

Did you ever wonder how much work went into planning an amusement park amusement park, a commercially operated park offering various forms of entertainment, such as arcade games, carousels, roller coasters, and performers, as well as food, drink, and souvenirs. ? In ``The Secret World of Amusement Parks This page contains a list of amusement parks by

,'' viewers get a look at the newest, fastest rides and how they are designed to maximize the scare factor.

And there's more planning behind the success of amusement parks than meets the eye. For example, every turn in the path through the park, the placement of each attraction, even what's being sold from the food carts have all been meticulously planned, leaving nothing to chance.

Some of the newest roller-coaster cars can travel up to 100 mph, riding on a magnetic wave generated within the track itself.

Planners place food courts at exact intervals throughout the park, so that the average person spending eight to nine hours walking through the park will hit food stalls as soon as they start to become hungry.

``The Secret World of Amusement Parks'' will be shown at 6 p.m. Sunday on the Learning Channel.
