``It's very comfy,'' says Court, 23, who plays Loonette, the couch's most frequent inhabitant INHABITANT. One who has his domicil in a place is an inhabitant of that place; one who has an actual fixed residence in a place.

What's the appeal? Perhaps it's the show's sweet, simple format. Loonette is a wide-eyed, friendly clown who likes to sit on an oversized o·ver·size

During the half-hour the show is on, Loonette performs such low-key tasks as checking her mail, reading to Molly, stretching and pulling stuff out from between the cushions. At the end, she cleans up. Simple.

Although relatively new to Los Angeles audiences, ``The Big Comfy Couch'' has been airing in Canada (it's produced in Toronto) since March 1993. Outlets for the show have grown steadily since. It now airs in 75 percent of U.S. markets.

Court began working on the show six years ago.

``I was working on another show called ``Mr. Dress Up'' when one of the producers handed me an idea packet about `The Big Comfy Couch,' '' she says. ``A year later, they sent me to clown school in Philadelphia, and the following year we were in production.''

Court says she draws on her own memories of childhood to play Loonette (named for her huge eyeglasses eyeglasses or spectacles, instrument or device for aiding and correcting defective sight.
