KIDNAPPED, DRUGGED, RAPED, BEAT ..THEN SOLD AS SEX SLAVES; Horrific truth about trafficking that shames Ireland.

MORE than 100 women and girls, some in their early teens, were trafficked into Ireland to work as sex slaves over the past two years, a report revealed yesterday.

They were lured here in search of a better life but instead found they had fallen into the clutches of evil pimps.

women have reported how they were kidnapped, raped and beaten by criminals who forced them to work as prostitutes across the country.

Of the 102 victims, 11 were children when they were brought to Ireland.

COCAINE In shocking testimonies, the women reveal how they were given cocaine so they could service as many clients as possible and beaten if customers complained they had not been satisfied.

A third of the victims were gang-raped while more than half of the women reported being raped in transit to Ireland to force them into the sex trade.

More than one in five - 22 per cent - were held in check by pimps' threats that loved ones at home would be beaten or killed or their homes torched if the women tried to escape.

The study also revealed there are more than 1,000 women - up to 97 per cent of them migrants - working in brothels BROTHELS, crim. law.  across Ireland.

But the sick exploitation remains hidden as the women are forced to work in apartments owned by pimps or brought to hotel rooms to service clients.

Researchers claim the sick trade is worth about EUR EUR

She added: "This report uncovers a heartbreaking and sickening litany of rape, abuse and exploitation for profit of migrant women on Irish soil.

, rather than addressing the urgent need to provide appropriate services and assistance." Patricia Kelleher, the main author of the report, yesterday warned the number of sex slaves here could be even higher than the 102 women identified over an 18-month period in 2007 and 2008.

She said: "Foreign women are literally being bought and sold and trafficked into Ireland.

"They are being imprisoned in houses across Ireland and forced to work as sex slaves.

"Around half are held hostage and the rest are controlled in other ways such as violence and threats to them and their families.

"Women from 16 different African countries and seven Eastern European countries are then being used to sell sex to Irish men." The report also revealed how the evil trade is being fuelled by well-paid and educated Irish men.

The average price paid was EUR150 for half an hour and EUR250 for an hour.

Most clients - 61 per cent - were married or in relationships when they paid for sex.

Nine out of 10 were Irish and one in four knew the women they had sex with had been forced into prostitution but didn't care.

The report also revealed that when trafficked women manage to escape or are rescued, they often don't receive the help they so desperately need.

In most cases they are arrested, held in custody and immediately deported for not having proper documents.

No one as yet has been prosecuted for trafficking offences in Ireland as the legislation only became law here in June.

Kathleen Fahy, director of Ruhama, which works with victims of trafficking, said the report left no doubt that sex trafficking is "a serious growing problem in Ireland".

She added: "The trafficking of women is well organised and covert.

Chief executive Denise Charlton said: "Men who buy sex might think they are involved in a consensual commercial transaction but the research findings give the lie to that.

"Men who buy sex are a crucial link in a chain of exploitation that results in serious harm to women.

"Without them, the sex industry would not exist.

"We call on the Government to criminalise the buying of sex in Ireland and to put in place effective programmes which examine the legal and human rights implications and the realities of prostitution."

Postings reveal how paying for sex has become commonplace for some men here as they casually list the best venues to visit and trade tips on how to avoid getting clamped while at the brothels. Others objectified the women in the most dehumanising terms. One posting read: "Get her while you can lads.
