and Patti LaBelle are beginning their joint concert tour today. And before anyone goes jumping to conclusions, Chaka wants us to know there will be no dueling divas nonsense.

``I think Patti and I are probably two of the most down-to-earth women in this business,'' she says. ``We're like sisters ... we love each other, and we've wanted to work together for a long, long time. I can't wait to get started.''

Khan says she and Patti plan to overlap shows and offer audiences a rare chance to see them duet on such classic tunes as ``At Last'' and ``Running Out of Fools.''

Meanwhile, Khan reveals, she's poised to throw her hat into the acting ring.

``I just met with Laurence Fishburne Laurence John Fishburne III[1] (born July 30 1961) is an American Academy Award-nominated, Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor of screen and stage, as well as playwright, director, and producer. . He's getting ready to produce his first film, and says he wants to consider me for it,'' reports Khan excitedly. ``He said, `No one's used you (as an actress) yet, have they?' I said, `No, but I'm perfectly willing to try.' ''

The film is ``Once in the Life,'' based on Fishburne's Broadway play ``Riff Raff'' - and the actor intends to serve as producer and director, as well as star.

We did the pilot a year and a half ago with the intention of its having a fall debut. But it was put on hold, supposedly for midseason airing. Then, came January, and we didn't go on the air, as they said. Or April, which became the plan. Or May ...''

He can't complain about the amount of exposure the show will receive in July - and August. The WB airs all eight episodes of the show during that time - twice. ``They really want this show to work.''

Among the troupe who apparently also want the show to work are Frank Stallone, Joey Travolta Joey Travolta (born 14 October 1950) in Englewood, NJ is an American actor, singer, and director. Travolta graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey in 1969.

Hamlin can identify with such a motive. The onetime star of ``L.A. Law'' says, ``My assignments are few and far between. Hopefully, `Movie Stars' will light a fire under my career, and I'll be working all the time.''
