KFC OPENS IN COLOMBIA

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) today opened its first restaurant in Colombia. The restaurant opening brings to 67 the number of countries in which KFC sells chicken.
The new restaurant is a large, 152-seat, "in-line unit," located in an office area in downtown Bogota. By the end of the year, KFC is planning to open three more restaurants, including two food court units in Bogota shopping malls, and a large free-standing restaurant with drive-thru capabilities in the northern part of the city.
The KFC restaurants will be owned and managed by the Javier Lopez family, owner of Aretama, one of Colombia's largest poultry producers.
The Bogota restaurants will offer traditional favorites such as Original Recipe chicken, Extra Tasty Crispy chicken, cole slaw and mashed potatoes. The restaurants will also sell dishes with a Latin influence, notably arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), and tres leches, a popular desert made with condensed milk, cake and sugar.
Each KFC restaurant is expected to employ an average of 40 full- and part-time associates, while average restaurant sales are expected to exceed U.S. $1 million annually.
In announcing the Colombia opening, KFC CEO John Cranor said: "We are very eager to do business in Bogota. Colombia has a strong and growing middle-class, who already consume large amounts of chicken. We are fortunate to have a strong business partner who understands the poultry business and has a track record of success. These four restaurants should be the foundation of a large KFC presence in Colombia."
KFC Corp., based in Louisville, Ky., is the world's most popular chicken restaurant chain with more than 8,850 outlets in 67 countries around the world serving six million customers each day. KF subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), Purchase, N.Y.
