KEVIN P. DOWD BECOMES PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF CHECKPOINT SYSTEMS, INC.

 THOROFARE, N.J., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: CHEK) today announced that Kevin P. Dowd has been named president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. A. E. Wolf, who continues as chairman of the board and chief executive officer, held the position of president until now.
 "As executive vice president, Kevin Dowd has played an integral role in the development and implementation of key corporate strategies, which have enabled Checkpoint to reposition itself in the loss prevention industry and achieve substantial growth in the past two years," said Mr. Wolf. "Under his leadership, Checkpoint has aggressively built sales and market share, broadened its product line and advanced its state-of-the-art radio frequency technology."

 Mr. Dowd, 45, has served as executive vice president of Checkpoint since May 1992. Prior to that, he served as vice president - marketing, sales and service from April 1989 to May 1992 and vice president of sales from August 1988 to April 1989. Before joining the company in 1988, Mr. Dowd was director-industrial products group, Mars Electronics from January 1987 through July 1988.
