KERR-MCGEE CHEMICAL FACILITIES RECOMMENDED FOR ISO 9002 CERTIFICATION

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp.'s Hamilton, Miss., electrolytic facility and joint-venture Australian pigment facility have passed certification audits and are being recommended for International Standards Organization (ISO 9002) certification.
George R. Hennigan, Kerr-McGee Chemical president, said ISO 9002 certification is "the hallmark of top quality companies. Attainment of this certification is required to effectively compete in a global marketplace."
The electrolytic facility was audited by Det Norske Veritas Industry Inc., a Norwegian company. The Hamilton facility manufactures manganese metal for use in aluminum and steel alloys and sodium chlorate used by the pulp and paper industry.
The TIWEST Kwinana, Australia pigment facility was audited by Lloyd's of London. The Kwinana plant is one of a complex of three plants including an ilmenite mine at Cooljarloo and a synthetic rutile plant at Chandala. The end product, titanium dioxide pigment, is used in paint, paper and plastics.
 W. Peter Woodward, Kerr-McGee Chemical's vice president of quality, called the recommendations for certification a "milestone toward achieving what amounts to the 'Good Housekeeping Seal' of quality in our industry. These certifications represent two years of hard work by the employees at both facilities. We are extremely proud of what they have accomplished."
